‘Everyday there’s a story, or opinion piece, that equates the way people love, or what they do with their bodies, to the downfall of civilisation. It’s painfully dull.
I wanted to make a work that teases this out in the most succinct way. I’m never thinking about what some ultra conservative politician has, or is doing, in their pants. It would be very weird if I was. So I don’t understand why they seem so obsessed with everyone else’s. It’s almost like it’s designed to be a massive distraction from the very real problems of the world - like unprecedented wealth inequality, a climate crisis, and patriarchal violence. But no, let’s not solve those issues, let’s all get our knickers in a twist about gender neutral bathrooms.
I deliberately angled the body away in the work to highlight this. We don’t need to know. It’s really not important. Let’s focus on the big stuff.’
