The Quiet City
51 x 61 cm
Synthetic Polymer on Birch Artist Panel
Framed in Tasmanian Oak
2024
‘I’ve been returning to people reading a lot in my recent sketches and drawings, because it’s a way to show the mind in an active state, while the body sits calmly.
When I was sketching this work I was thinking about how I feel happiest when I’m alone, but connected to a human context. I live in a city surrounded by people but, like the girl in the work, I like to be alone - to do my thing while the noise of the world hums along quietly in the distance.
I wanted to use colour to separate the 2 worlds. The blues of her apartment contrast against the warm light outside, but I like that the orange light leaks in, and illuminates her. She’s connected to her environment, even when she’s lost in her own world.’
- James
Each work is initialed in the artists signature style in the bottom right hand corner of the work, and signed by the artist and dated on the back. The painting is shipped pre strung and ready to hang.
The work is a certified one off artwork hand painted by the artist in his studio in Melbourne Australia in Autumn 2024, never to be reproduced.
