The Weeds

54cm x 54 cm
Synthetic polymer on paper
Framed behind glass in Tasmanian Oak

Artwork 31cm × 31 cm

When it comes to figuring out what you want in life there isn’t a map. You just have to go into the weeds, and then figure out if it’s taking you somewhere, or if you need to turn back. At a certain point you accept the weeds as a part of the journey, and you get better at navigating them.

I wanted to make a little painting about the idea of staying in motion, and pushing on. He’s pushing at the edge of the painting, beyond what he knows, and that’s hard. It’s a very personal journey, that most people don’t see, or even understand. That’s why he’s in his undies. You feel exposed, and unprepared, and often very alone in it, but when you get to where you’re going you realise the effort was worthwhile, and it’s sweetest because you did it for yourself. If you’re trying to do something, keep going. It might not take you where you thought it would, but it will take you to where, and who, you’re supposed to be.

This work is signed by the artist and dated on the back. The painting is shipped pre strung and ready to hang.

The work is a certified one off artwork hand painted by the artist in his studio in Melbourne Australia, never to be reproduced.
